Arnold made his debut for England in 1972 against Pakistan and played his last Test match against Australia in 1981. He took a total of 83 wickets in Test cricket at an average of 34.61. In ODIs, Arnold took 21 wickets at an average of 25.47. He was known for his accuracy and his ability to swing the ball both ways.

After retiring from playing cricket, Arnold worked as a coach for various teams, including Middlesex and Sussex. He was also a part of the England coaching staff during their successful Ashes campaign in 2005.

"Geoff Arnold, in his own way, was a genius. He was a bowler who did not rely on pace alone. He could swing the ball both ways, and his control was uncanny. He was an artist, and I always felt privileged to stand at slip and watch him bowl." - Tony Greig
